At Scene & Herd, we’re proud to support rural businesses and organisations not only in telling their stories, but in giving them the tools and confidence to do it themselves.
Recently, Anna Davies led a hands-on training session for Voluntary Initiative Scotland, focused on helping participants communicate their messages clearly, confidently and credibly. The workshop covered how to tailor your tone and messaging for different audiences – whether that’s the public, policymakers, fellow farmers or the media.
Using tools like the Message Matrix, Anna helped attendees identify the right platform, tone, and format for their message, whether they were preparing for a podcast interview, a Facebook post, a panel discussion or a conversation at the mart.
There were practical tips for all sorts of communication – from staying calm and focused during an interview to finding a compelling “hook” for written pieces. The session included interactive tasks like writing and recording 30-second videos, mock panel discussions, and mini-message rewrites. There was also plenty of time for self-reflection and feedback.
It wasn’t about polished PR speak – it was about being relatable, prepared, and confident in your message. As Anna often says, “Stories stick – so share yours.”
If you're part of a group, organisation or business in the rural or agri sectors and you’d like to help your team speak up, stand out and share what they do in a positive and professional way, Scene & Herd can help. Sessions are available in person or online and can be tailored to your goals – whether that’s preparing for a specific campaign, improving general media skills, or building confidence in public speaking and social media.
Let's empower more rural voices to be heard.
